How take-home pay is calculated in Ireland
- Income tax is 20% up to €44,000 (single) or €53,000 (married, one income), and 40% above. Personal and employee tax credits of €2,000 each reduce the bill.
- Universal Social Charge: 0.5% up to €12,012, 2% up to €28,700, 3% up to €70,044 and 8% above. Income of €13,000 or less is exempt.
- Employee PRSI is 4.2%, rising to 4.35% from 1 October 2026 (we use the blended annual rate).
Assumes a PAYE employee with standard credits only. Pension contributions here reduce take-home pay but tax relief on them is not applied. Figures are estimates, not tax advice.
