How take-home pay is calculated in India
- Under the new tax regime a ₹75,000 standard deduction is subtracted from salary.
- Slabs: nil up to ₹4 lakh, then 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% for each ₹4 lakh, and 30% above ₹24 lakh.
- The Section 87A rebate makes taxable income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free (about ₹12.75 lakh salary).
- A 4% health and education cess is added. A surcharge applies above ₹50 lakh.
New tax regime for resident individuals below 60. Employee PF reduces take-home pay but is not deductible under the new regime. Figures are estimates, not tax advice.
